Ghent-Based Construction Tech Start-Up Spotable Visits Minister-President Matthias Diependaele

Pieter-Jan Philips and Julie Dumoulin, co-founders of Spotable, visited Flemish Minister-President Matthias Diependaele on Thursday, 18 June. During the meeting, they explained how the Ghent-based start-up uses technology to make the construction sector more efficient and more data-driven.
Spotable, founded by Sebastien Vandendriessche, Pieter-Jan Philips and Julie Dumoulin, develops software that helps roofers, scaffolders and other construction professionals estimate construction and renovation projects faster and more accurately. By using digital data and smart tools, the company aims to simplify the measurement and quotation process and bring greater transparency to a sector where project estimates are often still time-consuming and complex.
The visit to Minister-President Diependaele gave Spotable the opportunity to present its mission, technology and growth plans. The discussion covered topics such as digitalisation in construction, labour shortages, renovation challenges and the role Flemish technology companies can play in strengthening traditional sectors.
“For Spotable, this was a particularly valuable moment,” says Pieter-Jan Philips, co-founder of Spotable. “We were able to show how a Flemish start-up is using concrete technology to address real challenges in the construction sector. Roof and façade renovations are complex, labour-intensive and often difficult to estimate accurately. With Spotable, we want to make that process simpler, more transparent and more scalable.”
The meeting with Minister-President Diependaele follows a period of increasing visibility for Spotable, including internationally. Earlier, Julie Dumoulin had the opportunity to speak as an entrepreneur with U.S. senators about challenges in sectors including construction and roofing. The fact that Spotable is now also able to share its vision with policymakers in Flanders is seen by the company as an important recognition.
“Our ambitions are international, but our roots are in Flanders,” says Dumoulin. “It is important that young technology companies are heard here, especially when they are building solutions for sectors that are so economically and socially relevant.”
According to Spotable, the strength of its technology lies in its accessibility. The software has been developed with the day-to-day reality of roofers, contractors and other players in the value chain in mind. The goal is not to make technology more complex, but to make it genuinely useful in the field.
“A digital tool only works when people actually want to use it,” Philips concludes. “That is why we build technology that starts from the reality of the sector. Sometimes innovation is very concrete: a roof, a quotation and a customer who wants to know in advance what to expect. When technology improves that process, it creates real impact.”
With its visit to Minister-President Diependaele, Spotable reaffirms its ambition to continue building, from Ghent, a future-oriented construction sector in which digitalisation, efficiency and craftsmanship reinforce one another.
